Lillie is looking at the culmination of a 31-year silence to see that her story is finally being told. The tremendous pain and suffering that she endured for so many years is eased by the fact that she knows her journey will inspire and encourage many others.

A Note from Betty
Lillie is camera-shy and told me from the very beginning that she was going to hide behind me. I didn't notice until the book launch was over when I looked back at the pictures that we didn't have ANY of her from this kick-off event. The book launch was held in conjunction with a women's retreat. Lillie was even a speaker for one of the retreat sessions. I terribly regret that I didn't capture this occasion for her in photographs. In my excitement and obsession to ensure the book launch was a success, I forgot the most important reason why I was there, and that was to tell her story to the best of my God-given ability and to show her how much her story was going to inspire others. I asked her to take these pictures the day afterwards just so I would have something to reflect on, something to show that her 31 year silence was finally being told. . |
